Was gonna go with like a 24" widescreen, then I realized that wasn't gonna help my e-penis. Ended up with a 42" 1080P screen. You gotta wear sunglasses when you're looking at this beast.

Gratuitous before/after pics. (Yes the desk is messy, shut the fuck up)

no and no. I refuse to use a wireless mouse. I will stick with my G5.

I am currently using an old-school apple usb keyboard. I will purchase a newer bluetooth apple keyboard to use.

    inorite?

it's actually great. It was SUPER bright at first, so I fiddled with the settings on the LCD and now it's perfect. The panel is about 4" higher than I'm used to (as it has speakers that i will never use) so I raised my chair a little bit and it's perfect. I am considering moving the desk away from the wall a few inches and mouting the LCD on the wall -- with the speakers hanging below the desk... But I'm already getting used to it like this.

I am used to dual 19" LCDs... So I'm used to maximizing my windows, and dragging between the two. So it's odd working with my windows not maximized. But I can already appreciate how much more usable space there is. Technically I increased my vertical resolution from 1024 to 1080, and decreased my horizontal resolution from 2560 to 1920... But this monitor makes better use of it's space.... I can now easily stack three tall windows, such as web browsers and word processors. Briefly checking my Visual Studio IDE it looks like a GLORIOUS editing environment. Especially since I have large project explorers, property managers, and toolbars on both sides -- now I can easily design my forms without forcing myself to either work on a single 19" LCD, and without an ugly "line" down the middle.

Also, movies are EPIC on this thing. I watched the TopGear Polar Special in HD, and it brought a tear to my eye. I also briefly pulled up abc.com and checked out Lost in HD... Also great.

I dont have any regrets with my monitor and besides, Costco had them for a "too good to be true" deal anyhow and I was in the market for one.

1 year hassle free return policy ftw! Thank you very much!!!!

I justified it by my parents paying for one of them. So basically the cost of me building my computer stayed the same. :bigthumb:

Jolly, what M-Audio interface did you wind up going with?

I'm ready to put a hammer into my Presonus Firestudio.

It works fine on a mac, but forget about trying to use it with windows.

That Mackie looks like a sweet deal, but no midi in/outs.

I like the FW410, but if i'm not mistaken that doesn't have balanced outs?

I have to have balanced outs because my Alesis Matica amp is stupid when it comes to unbalanced signals, and cuts out all the time.

I'm thinking of trying out this Focusrite to see if I have any luck with the firewire driver.

The set without the cables and headphones for $250 looks like a decent deal.

Because it was only $749.... so I figure I'd be stupid NOT to do it.

Spec sheet says unbalanced. my monitors didn't like straight mono 1/4" plugs... but when I used a 1/4" balanced > XLR it works great. Leads me to believe they are balanced -- but don't quote me on that.

It was $949 at costco (picked up at local costco warehouse, so no shipping charge) and I already had a buyer lined up to buy my LCDs at $100 each... With this thing I have zero use for the old panels, so they were just gonna sit a collect dust, anyway. So my net expense was only $749 for the display upgrade.

Under the same circumstances, I imagine most people would take the same actions.

In an ironic sort of way, I'm relieved that that monitor wouldn't fit on my desk.

My monitors are 13.5 x 24, and there's barely enough space in between them for my 24" lcd.
