hey guys, I was looking at updating my graphics card in my laptop. I have read some places that it is not possible to update this, while other sources have stated it is.

My question is, can I upgrade my laptop and if so what is a good option for me?

My main computing goals are watching videos/DVDs and a bit of gaming.

    My laptop is:

    TOSHIBA Satellite A215
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53
RAM: 2.00 GB (upgrading to 4 GB)
    Video Card: ATI Radeon X1200

I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, but i will be upgrading to Vista Ultimate 64-bit

    Thanks for any help! :wiggle:

In general, you can't swap out the video card in a laptop. The video components are almost always soldered to the motherboard. There is no industry standard for modular video cards for laptops. There have been some proprietary modular solutions in the past. But, they were done because the manufacturer wanted to offer optional video components while making it easy to assemble a laptop to customer specs. They weren't designed as a path for future upgrades.

im just going to go ahead and say you most likely can't upgrade your video card, and if you can it would probably be a similar model providing almost no performance advantage.

Upgrading a laptop's graphics card is like upgrading a Mac. You might as well buy a new computer.
