I've never understood why people call jetta's chick cars. Beetles, Cabrio's - sure.... maybe even base Golf's, but not jetta's. :dunno:

Right now I don't like the new mk5 jetta's, but I think they'll grow on me. I hated the mk4's when they came out, and I love them now.

Golf front with a TSX rear. I saw the rear and the first thing that came to my mind was A-C-U-R-A. Besides the rear, I like it.

Because 99.9% of the time when you see a Jetta on the road it is being driven by a chic......at least here Cali anyway.

    That thing looks awful.

Far too much bare expanses of metal, such as above the back wheel-arch. From my perspective it has quite clearly been designed with only one thing in mind, that being the American market. Hence the styling cues taken or stolen from Honda-Acura.

With reference to the Jetta/Bora/whatever being a girls car, I wouldnt say so. The majority of the few I see over here are all driven by men. Funnily enough a sizeable proportion of M3's around me are driven by women though :big grin:

I agree with that. They need to add some trim to the side or something. Like most cars I am sure I will like them more with some appropriate modifications.

Reminds me of a Corolla...they should have gotten a distinctive front end from the Golf like the Mk IVs.

I have to agree, mk5 Jettas are wack...
Ill hold onto to my mk4 until something good shows up.
As far as mk4s being girls cars, i think thats just a stereotype just as g35 being guido cars
heres a pic of my mk4 jetta, doesnt look like a girls car to me :fawk:

ehhhhhhh...gawd i hate lookin at those pics...everytime i see vortex update something about the mk5 i just hope the factory burns down and they have to use the karmann factory to start building 'nice' vws...mk4 was definitely not my style at first...but i still remember liking them...and more and more...i don't really like a thing about these...the jetta is slowly becoming more like the audi a4s...i think they are trying to make the passat more like the a6s...and now the phaeton for hte a8s...

i don't like where their going but as long as they beef up the gti in the process i'll be happy cuz i'm really sick of hearing how awesome neons(srt)/lancers(evo)/stis are...once we get 2.0t it'll be a whole new ball game

I don't think they're making the Jetta look ANYTHING like the A4. I have no idea where you get such ideas...:ugh:

very few people who like the previous generation really like the new designs when they first come out ... the back end does look a Corrolla

i didn't say look like the a4...i said making them MORE LIKE the a4s...notice the options and what not...the interiors are slowly fading away from the gtis and becoming alittle more 'lux'...the gli to me is definitely not the GLI of old...the oldschool GLIs got more exclusive stuff not shiz we've all seen on every limited edition GTI for the last 3 years...

Indeed. Audi was the first manufacturer to really drive home the idea of an I5 engine for being more powerful than an I4 but less harsh (and expensive) than a V6.

After owning my 850, I want to drive the Chevy Colorado with the 5, and the older Acura RL 2.5 to see how they stack up, even when modded my 850's 4 is damn smooth.

Defenitely uglier. I refuse to read the article for fear of temporary blindness. Is it quicker at least? :hs:

    well it'll definitely be quicker...vw is pretty much redesigning all their engines...1.8t --> 2.0t (possibly 2.2t)...2.8L --> 3.2L...R32 --> R36...tdi (1.9t) --> 16v 2.0t...so they should be gettin a complete overhaul and most of the engines are gettin a nice 30-40hp boost

quicker or not it still looks like crap... Vw just got lazy on designing this car. their shortcut was " hey we'll just add a trunk to the golf"
