Finally! the biggest Apple rumor of this year has come to an end taking the shape of reality...

It includes a built-in GPS, dramatically improved audio, solid metal buttons, insanely long battery life, normal headphone jack, and web browsing is 36% faster than any other 3G phone.

Some more info on an article

apparantly Apple's definition of 3G is very loose. Sprint's EVDO still SMASHES it.

But the iPhone is indisputably nicer. And who really surfs the web on a phone, anyway? It's one thing to pull up a map or find a restaurant or check an email with an invitation in it, you know, something related to going somewhere, but who browses the web aimlessly to pass the time while they're out doing something else?

    1. Copy and paste what from where to where?

    2. It's a phone. Call the person you want to talk to. I've been hassling my brother about this one for a month now, because he's been texting some girl in NJ ten times a day and racking up data charges. Call the bitch if she's so interesting! It's free! We have so many rollover minutes we can't save any more!

I copy/paste on my blackberry all the time. Between notes, tasks, calendar items, email, sms, etc.

SMS/MMS are great. There are situations where a text makes sense. And I prefer MMS to say, calling someone and asking them to pull out an easel and sketch what i describe to them.

um, no. first of all, you can't compare a phone (iphone) to a carrier (sprint).

Secondly, I will stick with sprint over that shittastic junk you call at&t.

According to Apple, the iPhone with AT&T "3G" UMTS/HSDPA averages 200Kbps. Sprint's 3G 1900MHz EVDO is documented at averaging over 700Kbps.

I post on OT from my blackberry. I find webbrowsing to be better than playing games or listening to music like other users.

Sprint's Data owns. However, never call customer support.

I'm with you - I would LOVE to have an iPhone, but REFUSE to use AT&T. Majority of my friends and coworkers switched to get an iphone, and regret that they now have a 2 year contract with a SHIT ASS provider. Sprint is even worse in this market, however. VZW is the only provider worth the money IMO.. at least around here.

oddly enough i watched the keynote last night and i noticed t-mobile as one of the providers listed, along with fido, rogers, etc

i'm guessing that is just internation edge support though, probably not 3g

Yeah, T-Mo is only EDGE presently. They are rolling out 3G nationally this year starting in larger cities.. I have T-Mo right now, and I'd stay with them if 3G hits this year in Tampa. If not, I'm switching back to VZW..

But it's probably T-Mo outside the US..

I use copy/paste all the time on my treo... but then again, it supports a lot more third party apps :hsugh:

but i love your defensive arguments, the same kind of arguments people used to defend the macbook air. it doesn't HAVE to have an optical drive!

yea it's not 3g. tmobile is so rediculously shitty I don't know why people even bother with them. tmobile coverage is even worse than at&t. They only thing they have going for them is decent pricing... but in the end, why be happy with a good price if it never works?

TMo is better than AT&T here, but not by much.

You're full of shit. I will bet a permaban that you DO NOT HAVE A 3G IPHONE!

My statistics are from APPLE themselves. And believe me, if the cool-aid master Steve Jobs says it only does 200Kbps then it probably does even less!

everyone i know loves sprint. read online and you will see story after story about how the network is fucking fantastic. Admitedly the customer service is non-existent... But the network is SOLID.

Supprisingly I have nothing to complain about with customer service. I've called numorous times about random things (billing issues, plan changes, etc) and other than minor language issuses (not too bad, at least understandable with minial repeating), its been fine. (had Sprint since ~2001)

I've only had Sprint and my only coverage complaints were due to the phone I had. And coverage really depends on where you are though. Here, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T are tied depending on where in the city you are... then T-Mobile, etc. I can't say anything about the data service since I don't use it.

AT&T's 3G network does suck, btw. When compared to EVDO, UMTS/HSDPA doesn't even compare.

I tested an EDGE-equipped iPhone and averaged 70Kbit/sec. Apple claims a 2.4x increase in speed. That brings us to 168Kbit/sec. :ugh:

What the fuck do you not get about Apple saying their 3G iPhone can only do 2.4x what the edge version did.

You are in a thread about the 3G iPhone.

    This isn't about kitchen sinks.
    This isn't about dogs.
    This isn't about std's.
    This isn't about cheeseburgers.
This isn't about 3G AT&T networks, in general.

This is about the 3G iPhone.

So I think you should :gtfo: if you want to start talking about something else.

I searched google and I couldn't find a single 1st page result that included actual speed research being performed that didn't say EVDO > *.

I think HTC and RIM would like to have some words with you about whether or not the iPhone is better.

HTC Touch Pro is pretty damn awesome. RIM pretty much always puts out stellar products as well.

And while I almost feel icky agreeing with Potroast, the AT&T network is just ass. EVDO destroys it.

A smartphone running at ISDN speeds is nothing to be proud of.
