It's going to be used exclusively to run HD video on a 50" 1080P TV.
I've used the board before and like it, same with the case. I will swap out the fans for ones with no lights. The only thing I'm a little unsure of is the video card. The majority of the video I have is 720p, but there is some 1080p stuff that I have, and more to come in the future. Will this card be enough to run it without hiccups?

I think newegg has an MSI 8800GT over clocked for 219.

the vid card and cpu will be more than enough to play 1080p.

it looks like you're gonna oc this thing? let us know how this goes with the new 45nm procs.

If it's anything like the results people are getting from the E8400, then it will be great.

I don't know a ton about HTPC set ups but, the processor and graphics card seem over kill.

I'd probably switch the Q9450 out of this one and throw it into my main system and take the Q6600 in it and throw it into the HTPC.

Either way, it doesn't seem worth it to buy some of the lesser stuff, when for a hundred bucks more, you can get twice the power. I will end up loading Folding @ Home on it too.

Well, an antec 900 isn't really a "HTPC" case either. I wouldn't want that thing sitting in my living room.

From my understanding, htpc's are small form factor, where the cases kinda blend in with the rest of the HT equipment. The innards are whatever one wants to make of it.

The slowest c2d would be fast enough, a 8800gt may be overkill, but it's great bang for the buck and should last for years in the htpc department. One may want to throw in a high fidelity sound card... I assume they want the htpc to silent.

But this pc build to me is classified as a great bang for the buck gaming machine that can do almost everything else very well.

    yeah, bad choice of case
you'll never want buzzing fan noise while watching a movie

you'll have 3 x 120mm fans, 1 x 200mm fan, the 8800GT fan, maybe a fan for the Ultra-120, and the PSU fan to worry about

I'm not worried about the noise from the case, I have one now and you can barely hear the fans when they're on low. If the noise does become a problem, I can just punch a hole in the wall and relocate the computer to my office and run the cables through the wall.

yes, that will play 1080p well.

I urge you to consider one of the supurb HTPC cases that Silverstone makes. It will fit well with standard DVD players and amplifiers, and some have VFD displays, as well.

    ^^^

as much as I like the 900, it doesn't really fit the HTPC theme.

the 182 Antec case prolly wont work for HTPC , but with 3 120mm fans, my OC'd 8800gt with fan blasted to 70% is quite.
