    New hotness (now with pictures)

So, I picked up a shooter-grade Russian M44 carbine. 10 Stripper clips, and 105 rounds of brass-cased ammo for $120. I also got a firing pin guage, and a sling.

Pictures to come after cosmolene removal.

The stock reeks of cosmoline, but that will have to wait another day. Got it taken all the way down, pulled the bolt apart, cleaned and oiled all mechanisms. I can't wait to get this thing out to the range.

I bought 105 rounds of this stuff, 7 boxes for $2 a box.

I have discovered that the stuff I bought is berdan primed :( , which means no reloading for me. Apparently Wolf makes some brass-cased, boxer primed stuff that takes well to reloading. I will need to track some down. Sierra makes some .311 bullets in 150 and 180 grain. The 180 grain soft points look like they would be exactly what I want for hunting.

Have you checked the headspace? You may want to do that before firing.

I was going to, but this one was re-barreled before it was dipped and stored. the chamber and rifling are mint! There is a possibility I still may (friend is a gunsmith), but I am very certain this one is good.

I'm taking it to the range tonight, and going to test it out. If it doesn't blow hot gas in my face, I will know that it's safe :hsd:

Not really, I'm going to get the headspace checked, just to be on the safe side.

Best thing to do. Never can be too safe. And shoot with the bayonet extended. I hear that it's more accurate that way.

Apparently, the gun shop locally doesn't have the gauges for this caliber *grumble*. I guess I will be taking a risk. Wish me luck!

Well, good and bad news. The gun didn't blow up, that's the good news. The bad news is, even at 15 yards, it is hitting way over to the left. Not quite sure how to cure that. I hear the M44s were sighted with the bayonets extended, but that seems like a very big jump still.

I am probably going to get it out on my buddies land, and check to see if it can be sighted in, although I imagine I might have gotten fleeced on this one.
