My dad asked me to find him a new home system, and spend up to 2K. We mainly want it for movies. What should I look for? Any good ideas? Does any1 know about "multi-room" systems?

For 2000 dollars, I would probably budget 300 for the reciever, 400 for the subwoofer, and 1200 for the speakers. The remaining 100 dollars would be needed for wire, connectors, power strips, etc.

Are you wanting to include the multiroom setup in the 2000 dollar pricerange or is that extra?

Yeah, and include a multiroom sys. I already have good speakers in other rooms, I just want to be able to control them from 1 center station.

you can probably find a 7 channel receiver for not too much that will let you use 5 channels as a normal 5.1 setup and use the back 2 channels in a different room with a seperate source than the main room.

denon 1804, a few hundred on cables, paradigm atoms for the rear, maybe some paradigm towers and a center channel. maybe the nht super ones for hte rear and the nht setup in front. just get what you can afford. I'd get a velodyne cht-12.
