Right now i have a pos crappy panasonic head unit in my car, and i just installed some new speakers and a sub. This particular headunit doesn't allow me to sepertly control the volume of bass of the sub. So i'm thinking about buying a new head unit.

I want to spend around $200 bucks, and the only feature that i really want is is the ability to independly control the bass going to the speakers and the subwoofer volume.
I'd also like it to have an AUX input so i can run a direct connection to my ipod rather than the shitty FM transmitters

I was looking at the Panasonic CQ-C8401U ($209.00)
    http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&itemId=88036&catGroupId=25028&modelNo=CQ-C8401U&surfModel=CQ-C8401U&cacheProgram=11002&cachePartner=7000000000000005702

I'm not sure if i can get anything better for the price. I know it's a tight budget for a headunit considering most run in the 400+ range, but is there a better headunit for the price?

Most run in the 400+ range? Absolutely not. I just bought one of the best head units available for $300. Anyway, how about an Alpine? You'll generally need a seperate adapter for aux in, but it does support it. Or maybe an Eclipse from the 3xxx or possibly 5xxx series? You could take a look at pioneer as well if you'd like. Those are my top recommendations. Btw, I'm referring to eBay prices, not in-store.

Also, are you running a seperate amplifier for your new speakers? If not, your $200 would probably be better spent on an amp rather than a head unit right now, and just adjusting your gains on your monoblock properly for most music for now until you get a capable head unit. Hope that helps.

You can transfer the amp and often speakers to the new car.

that might not be the case

i have now an 89 camry w/ 4.5 rounds in front and 6.5 rounds in back. Most cars i see now have at least 6x9s in the back. I don't want to power the speakers with an amp, at least not yet. I want a good head unit first and see where that puts me

I'd stay away from eclipse. Alpine is expensive, in my opinion, but they are good.
