OK. So the other day at 3am I hear my alarm going off. I look out the window and some bastards are running down the street with my head unit which was a about a ~$120 alpine that i bought in february. anyways I was hoping someone could suggest to me something that is just as good or better for under $150. what i liked about that head unit was the subwoofer control. thanks

there's not really anything too great under $150, so why not get what you had (and I assume liked)

Then go buy a panasonic, jvc, aiwa, sony, etc., but you're sacrificing sound quality. Personally, I think alpines look pretty good.

Go for an Alpine again. You could always go on ebay and find the higher end model for the same price. :dunno:

The expensive alpines look good. The cheap ones look like shit.

I have a hard time with ebay for car audio because you don't know what you're gonna get. I got an amp from ebay and it worked... but sound quality was poor. It was weird.

And you attribute the sound quality issue to eBay, and not the amp? If you buy from huge shops on eBay (1000+ sales with >99% feedback) then you should be just fine.

$150 off Crutchfield.com, so probably $120 off eBay brand new. It doesn't look like shit to me, but I guess that's up to the beholder. The chrome stuff some of the other brands churn out at this price point (or above) looks like shit to me.

I bought a NICE avionixx 440.4. I had already purchased an identical unit NEW, and loved it. The one from eBay wasn't even close to the same sound quality. I guess that's why it made it's way to ebay.
