Just picked up a glock 19, mostly as a back up as im going to rogers shooting school next month. I seem to remember reading somehwere that there was a certain way to clean the glock the first time. tried looking around didnt find anything, can anyone help?

There is no special cleaning required.

    Go and shoot it.

    Nothing special; clean, lube, shoot.

First two steps above are totally optional.

I agree with the exception of the first time out. I prefer to clean and lube before shooting any gun for the first time just for peace of mind that there isn't any factory debris in the gun.

Just remember with Glocks that less is more. They are designed to not need a lot of lube at all, just a little tiny amount. It's the total opposite of an AR. I'd sooner run my Glock dry than too wet.

I'd get rid of all the factory packing grease, lube up and not worry about it for a while.

Been a while since I've played with a NIB Glock, but I'm wary of the amounts of shitty cosmo type grease found in many guns from the factory.

i thought you weren't suppose to clean it right away. It comes prelubed with some "break-in" lube shit... Or am I just confused. It's been a while. :o

I clean out that garbage copper grease. While I run my competition glocks wet I don't do so on my carry glocks. Mostly because that extra lube can find it's way onto my clothes.

Make sure there's nothing obstructing it from the factory then load some rounds into it and shoot it out of the box. Clean and lube it if you really want to. It's not like it's terribly fragile with a maintenance schedule that must be rigidly adhered to with parts that need regular replacement/adjustment. It should never see a gunsmith unless you want something done you don't feel like doing yourself.

Also keep in mind that excessive cleaning causes significantly more wear than actually firing the gun.

also, if i were to purchase the blade-tech doh for a glock 19 with a weaponlight. will a glock without a weaponlight still fit in the holster?
