Reguarding National guard/ Reserves. I have got $667 in the past year for my benefits and plan to do the same thing this year, but I heard a rumor from another guard member who just graduated that under this new bill guard people will also recieve BAH on top of what we already get. Is this true or just another rumor in the military? I tried looking it up and even the VA rep here couldn't answer the question.

Are you sure thats for guard members too, it mainly seems like everything is for active duty only. I can't read too much into that stuff because it makes my head ache.

Not sure, but I would guess if you're currently getting the GI bill (and served after 9/11), then you will get this since it's an upgrade to the GI bill.

Yes, we had a VA representative come and give us a class. National Guard/Reserves will get BAH under the new GI Bill, but you will only receive it if you are going to school full-time.

Sweet thanks for all the replys and yeah I'm taking 4-4 credit classes so yeah I'm going to school full time and plan on using all the benefits to pay for college so I don't have to take out any loans. This is going to help out for bills so much.

Isn't it worked out by the schools zip code, not your home address?

Why would it be the schools? You are getting BAH because you are going to school full-time, assuming that school takes up most of your time to have a job. Therefore, you get BAH that varies depending on where you live, not the school you attend.

EDIT: Guess I was misinformed. See Post #23.

Thats what I thought, but from the wiki link above

"A monthly living stipend based on housing costs of a servicemember of pay grade E-5 with dependents, based on zip code of learning institution. This rate varies greatly nationwide; the current rate for New York City is $2,444, while the same rate for El Paso, TX is $876. Veterans attending schools online or through correspondence will not receive this benefit."

Hmm, don't know who wrote the page, but the VA told us directly that it is based on where you live. It makes no sense if you go to school where BAH could be $400 less than where you actually live.

Well I get 667 now and if I remember right an E-4 with no dependants was 700 so 1450ish a month. Then and drill pay and the total will be 1700  and thats why living at home while going to college is great. I can pay for school with no debt as college is roughly 800 month after everything and the rest of my bill/expenses for the month total 500ish so I have 400 month play money after all my bills/expenses with no job. My work schedule now is 35hrs a week with more expenses and my total income is around 1650 .

:werd: I'm gonna do it. I make around $3700 a month. I think I can manage the job and school, I've done it before and kept a 3.5GPA.

Once the wife graduates in may and gets her first job, it'll be my time to go to school. sucks I'll be quitting a $4200/month job but oh well. it's not a career job for me.

Not too sure but I would assume yes, college is college to me. I even think fulltime graduate is only 10 credits too.

Can you still work while you go to school under the gi bill ?

Itd be really nice to get all your schooling paid for plus bah pay for living expnenses and top it off with. A part time gig at a restaurant or soething

    Oh Hiya!

I already graduated college. But, I graduated a semester early so I still have my national guard scholarship left for that, and I have 6 months of GI Bill left.

When I get back from Iraq, I'm just going to take online classes full time so I can get the extra money. :mamoru:

    Wrong.

I guess I was misinformed about BAH being in the zip code you live in.
