So I have a new gf and we've been together for about a week. Anyway, her birthday is next week (turning 25) and I really don't know what to do/get for her. I mean, we've only been together for a short time so I don't want to go overboard...that's for later in the relationship, but for now I'm clueless. A nice dinner? Take her to something she likes to do/see? Any suggestions are welcome.

    to ya'll.

Send flowers, get a nice picture frame that's for a pic of the two of you, make her dinner or take her out.

Def ask if there's anything she had in mind, you should try to make it personal.

The picture frame is a good idea - would show I want to make some memories.

In the past I've usually had several months with a girl before the b-day came up. Never been this soon before :noes:

After a week of dating I think even that is overboard. I'd offer to take her to dinner and give her a card honestly. (I'm a girl BTW)

:bigthumb: Getting her flowers this early on is almost a surefire way to make her expect them later on. Plus they are unoriginal. After 2 weeks of dating anything other than a dinner is too much.

I made that mistake with my last gf. She ended up expecting them all the time and would complain when I hadn't gotten them in awhile

Really? I thought it was pretty basic. I think he should get something tangible though, even if it's something small. That's why I figured a picture frame would be good. You can get cute ones at Target for like $10.

I dont think that flowers for a particular reason (such as a birthday) incites a standard that she should be getting them all the time. go ahead and give em if you think it fits. I dont think flowers are unoriginal, unless its crappy roses.

haha i hear ya on that one. My current bf used to bring me flowers at work all the time, for no reason really. It has pretty much stopped, and i understand why but it still makes me a tad sad. all the girls in the office were totally jealous when he did that. Now i get the occasional question or comment about how they havent seen flowers in my office lately. :fawk:

lol, my current bf used to do that in the beginning to, except at the time I used to work in a small children's clothing store and so he would bring them to me at night when I got out. The other girl's used to get so jealous! They were always like awww. Now, I don't get them as often, but I must say I appreciate them a lot more.
I say dinner and a card would be nice, it's only been 2 wks.

No flowers, no picture frame, nothing fancy.

Take her for a nice dinner or to a show/event.

Oh I've always loved giving and getting picture frames from bf's, there's nothing wrong with the idea in general...except that after dating one week I'd think that's a little fast. Then they have to go through the whole "lets take the perfect picture for this frame!" when maybe he's really not even into her that much yet or vice versa.

What ALWAYS works for me is to MAKE a card.

Last time I spent about 4 hours trying to get the sparkles to stick in the shape of "HAppy Birthday" then said fuck it and just made the whole thing purple.

I mean, it came together a lot easier in my head.

Anyway, think of what you are good at and do something like that. If you are good at drawing, make a card with your drawing on the cover. If you are good at writing, write a poem in the middle... Either way, Ive done this twice and both times it was <swish>

I guess I see your point. I never really thought of a picture frame as a gift that would rush a relationship though. I just thought it was something nice but really inexpensive.

I make all of my cards. My boyfriend loves it because they are usually so damn silly looking. Seriously a 5 year old could do as well, but I at least put my time, effort and love into it and he recognizes that. I've also made frames. I think in this case though the guy will be fine with a Hallmark visit.

I think it might be a little to early on in their relationship to joke about giving each other STDs...

Although those things are hilarious, I'm going to have to get something for my brother for Christmas. Perhaps black death.
