Ford has already said that the GT is only going to be around for 3 years, with 1500 cars produced per year. It will end as an '07 model in 2006.

The rumor is that the GT's replacement will be shown at the NAIAS in january. It is to be a higher-volume car that would sell for $60k to $70k. Supposedly it would pull from the original Shelby Cobra and Shelby Daytona Coupe. 500hp, 2 seater.

    :dunno:

Just a rumor I heard, but it would be pretty sweet to have the big 3 competing at this level of car. ZO6, Viper, and mystery ford :eek3:

No link, no pics, you'll just have to wait til january to find out :hs:

That might be for the best, after all. While the GT is an awesome car, some people just won't shut up with the "It's still a Ford" comments. A lower priced car might help.

If Ford decides they want to move up later on, they can always go with a V12 car or something.

Well the simple fact is that Ford won't make any money on the GT. It is PURELY to get people excited about ford. The new car will be there to make money :big grin:

Yeah, I didn't think they were. They couldn't have made any money offering Enzo performance for around 1/4 the price.hehe

I'd like to see SVT get their hands on the Aston Martin V12, though.:yum: It already makes 460hp NA, and who knows how much under FI duty.

There is a profit margin on the Ford GT. The investment in the entire program to bring it to life was minimal, and a bit of the car was farmed out to suppliers outside of Ford.

You are correct though, the point was not to make money, it was to re-energize the Ford brand, Ford's image, and the entire company.

bull fucking shit, i bet that car costs all of 50-60k for ford to produce.

they are making money on it no doubt, and the margins are high.. its just the demand is low.

that simple.. so they do a limited production run of 1500 a year, to raise demand, because people are left thinking "lyke OMGZ YOH, ONLY 1500'z OF THEM R TO MAKE!!!"

when the car would probably sell about 1500 anyways. the big 3 are profit maximizing firms, if they can make a higher profit selling more units, they will. they dont do stupid shit like saying "oh sorry were only going to make 100 units, even though we could probably sell 200" the bean counters would never allow for it, not to mention its a bad business practice unless your brand is synonymous with exclusivity like ferrari and bently.

Hey, the Noble M12 GTO 3 uses a twin turbo , 3L Duratec V6 with around 340hp. It can match a Murcielago in 0-60 acceleration. Part of that is because of its 2160lb curb weight, but that's beside the point.

Imagine a Duratec V12 tuned only the way those crazy guys at SVT know how. Maybe the Bugatti Veyron 16/4 would have something to worry about...if it ever gets launched. There's been a few revisions, and they're still worried about how the tires will hold up.

how is this going to be any different than the shelby series 1 (other than not having an oldsmobile engine) which wasnt much of a success. or different than the cobras shelby is making now?

I'm not bashing, but there are too damn many Mustang models.

Saleen, Cobras, Cobra R, Rosuch's, Steedas, GTs, Bullits, Mach 1s, etc etc.
and Im probably even forgetting some
That would be awesome though, to have 3 American supercars.

    Corvette, Viper....

BTW: The Vette isn't a supercar.

That's a bit of an understatement.:hs: The Crossfire needs at least 250hp to be somewhat competitive. Even then, it'd still be dismissed as a bit underpowered. That car should at least crack the 6 second 0-60mph barrier, at the price Chrysler wants for it.

And thats the thing - "at the price Chrysler wants for it" - that really stops a lot of people. For that money, you can get a used Boxter that has more prestige, a recently used Corvette (practically new), a 350Z, and many other cars that out perform it in every way. I like its looks and I would like to have one...if it had more power.

Oh yes, the Z06 IS a supercar. Let's not restart this discussion again...

No its not. Yes, it is a super car to have, but it is not up there in the ranks of Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, etc. However, it was never intended to be. It was/is intended to give awesome performance without all the fluff that goes with supercars. No need to restart this discussion because what I just posted is the absolutel irrefutable proof.
