There's a bunch of "insider tips" that hint at a September release:

    1. Merom's just launched
    2. Apple's Paris Expo is next month -- The most likely place to announce updated products.
    3. You can't order large shipments of Mac Mini til after Labor Day -- This one blogger had a similar experience before, and then a few days later the Intel Minis came out.
    4. Back-to-School specials end on the 16th -- Using specials like this is a good way to clear out inventory and make room for newer products.

So the MBP, Mac Mini and Nanos are expected to be updated this Fall...can't think of a better time to announce such updates than the Paris Expo in a couple weeks.

I hope I'm right...I'm dying to make the Switch already.

Nobody has a fucking cluuuuuue just guessing. :)

I don't expect Apple to release another version until they address the heat issues. Core 2 Duo won't fix their heat problem, so the release will be engineering limited, not supply limited. Just a guess, though.

why? you have a fantastic product that you'll be able to use for YEARS and that's lightyears ahead of any similarly priced windows platform. that's my least favorite comment for apple users, because if you kept waiting because you thought something better was just about to come out, you'd never buy a computer...
that being said, enjoy your awesome laptop

Very true.. I don't regret my purchase at all... and you're right this thing performs flawlessly with anything I throw at it (2ghz, 2gig ram). So really I have nothing to complain. It's just nice to have the top of the line for a little while :o

Here is some benchmarks of Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo. Overall, I would not get my panties in a wad over it. You get some better benches in some areas, the same in others. Battery life in most cases is the same. The 4MB cache is nice though.

You do get X64 capability with the Core 2 Duo though.....that may come into play with the next version of OSX being fully 64 bit.

True, we shall see. 64bit itself isn't going to give you a speed increase, people using the extensions and making things more complex, yet faster, will be the advantage.
