I need a new computer cant decide between Vista or XP. I kinda don't like Vista but wondering if buying a computer now with XP is kind of a waste or something. Any suggestions on what to make sure my computer has to run it well?

Vista with an XP downgrade and a 7 upgrade. Best of all 3 worlds!

i would be hesitant to get vista now because in 3 months you're going to be paying to upgrade when you have the irresistible urge to install windows 7.

Same here. That was actually the official stance some of our managers took when they said we'll be skipping Vista implementation. Gotta hand it to Apple's marketing department. Their portrayal of Vista as a piece of shit was fucking masterful.

Okay, to be fair - part of the whole not upgrading to Vista in corporate environments is because of the amount of horribly bad software that requires admin privileges to install. Scripting is also more difficult - or different, because of the enhanced security. For a stand-alone computer though, it's fine.

Right, Microsoft wasnt at fault for software being shit.

    Most installers were garbage.

pretty sure if you buy Vista now you can upgrade to 7 for free when it's released.

Believe me, MS is just as bad. There is NO standards being adhered to at MS - take a trip through the registry of MS products to see what I mean.

In terms of compatibility they certainly did fine, but I can't say I've had a pleasant experience with all of their products.

Yes, if you're buying a computer now, it'll come with Vista, but you'll be eligible to get a free Windows 7 upgrade. Not sure if it goes for all computers with Vista?

vista is not that bad. :dunno:

i have 7 at home and a machine at work with vista. not much difference. XP is too old. Vista does kind of suck, but if you insist on paying for an os, go for vista. Why not just buy a computer with linux (free) to save yourself a few hundred dollars, and just get the free 1 year license for windows 7?
