GUN New Carry Gun v. Scandium

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, Dec 13, 2008.

  1. I've wanted a 442 for a while to supplement the large and heavy G29 for concealed carry. It's not too bad to have the G29 in the winter when you're wearing a coat and heavier clothes, but it sucks for spring/summer carry, and anytime you don't want to feel like you've got a brick hanging off your belt. So, I called up my favorite local store and asked if they had a 442 in stock. They did. I headed down with Laurel this morning to make my purchase. When we got there I was fondling the 442 when Laurel spotted the 340PD sitting in the case. She asked the counter guy if she could play with it, and then remarked how light it was. To make a long story short, she and the counter guy talked me into it. I'm kind of afraid to shoot full power .357 through it. S&W says it weighs 12oz. I weighed it at 11 5/8oz on my digital kitchen scale.

    442 is .38 only i though?

  3. Correct. The Scandium models are capable of .357 though.

    are you fuckin serious?

  9. Tell me about it! I was going to buy the 442 for myself, but I figure since I have no idea what I want for Christmas, and my mom is harassing me to tell her what I want, I'll just tell her to give me some money for this, so my cost for it won't be much more than the 442.

  10. Yeah. I learned my lesson about heavy, bulky carry guns with the G29. I wanted something small and light. The 442 is great, but since I figured I could work the Christmas angle with this, I ended up with something even lighter and capable of firing .357.

Cursed with high FFL transfers as well? The closest places to me charge $50 per item transferred.

  13. Yeah, the cheapest places around here are $40.

  14. So, what's the current hotness in .357 self defense ammo?

Good buy. My dad has one and I'm thinking about buying one myself since I borrow his when I can. .357 isn't fun, but I think it's still manageable.

I hate you. My cousin's husband has one for his primary carry. Fucking thing is sick, but for $900, I've always said it's too much. Plus a step down to ~$500, you can get the titanium one that I think (just going from my vague memory) is like .5 oz less

Dealer cost for that gun through a distributor is $699. We'd probably sell that gun in our shop for $749.

WOAH WOAH WOAH, that's a 442? If that's the case, you're either mistaken and it's not a 442, or you got ripped the fuck off.

My previous comments were related to the 340PD, which IS Scandium. The 442 is Aluminum/Titanium (can't remember, and I've got the flu :wtc:)
