About 6 months ago i asked some people here on OT for advice on some new camera gear. Well i got a nice tax return this year so I picked up

    Canon 300mm F4L IS
    Canon 70-200 F4L
    Canon 50mm F1.8

    Kata R-102 Rucksack
    Nice new Slik Tripod Head

Hopefully before the end of the summer I will the 17-40 f4L and a new camera body. Hopefully I will have some good pictures to show for all this upgrade in gear.

nice. maybe u could have saveed money by getting a 2.8 is and a 1.6x teleconverter?

not sure maybe some one can do the math for me.

i dunno i only say this cause of two reasons.

1)it keeps the total wieght of your kit down, but i dont know if this is important to you. For me having light wieght gear is a plus.

    2) you cover a focal range of 70-300, at 300 you are at f4 for the lense, which is how fast you are now, but from 70-200 you have 2.8, in addition you also have the 200-300 range for zooming. I find that when working with telephotos zooming is very nice for fine tuning a compostion.

Not trying to rag on what you bought, its all awesome gear, but i wanted to throw this out there.

    Hippy,
I agree with you. I was thinking the same thing but I wanna use the 300mm + 1.4x TC. I primarily do nature stuff so some times I need all the length I can get. That was the reason for getting the 300mm prime.

oh for me persoanlly it seems that 200x1.4 (300) plus the 1.6 crop factor 460mm f4 is usally good enough, but any extra length cant hurt.
