    as do i, but here at work (XP), i use firefox. not too shabby

    XP? I thought this was the mac forum? :)

    By the way, I'm trying out the latest version of Mozilla and the large text area is pretty snappy.

    It's because of the animated gifs in the smilies. When I go to basic editor it works fine.

    Yep. I've noticed that same slugishness in Safari too. The animated gifs move much faster in Mozilla than Safari. I'd be curious to see if you notice the same between Camino and Mozilla.
