    Wow, that's terrible.

Since you have a monitor already, I'm assuming, you could probably build a good gaming box for $1500 or less. There is zero need to pay the super premium prices on the newest shit out there. Make a thread in the main and ask the PC builders there. They've never let me down.

    What specifically is terrible?

I can't see anything in that list that is extravagant.

Replace the GTX 285 with a 5870 - slightly cheaper, better card. In all honesty, though, other than Crysis, you won't need to spend $400 on a car. You can get a card 1/2 the price that can play all current and future games perfectly well. Premium cards aren't worth the price premium because you're not getting much extra FPS (at most 10, AT MOST).
And, definitely, replace the 950 with the i7 920. 1/2 price, same (if not better) performance (esp if OC)
    Raid0 the hard drives.

Do you really need a BD-R?

Yes. Unfortunately this isn't just a gaming machine. Me and my wife own a design/photography/videography studio. Need the BD-R for HD wedding videos. :hs:

fuck that, if you got the money build the best you can. Or you will be doing the same thing in 2 years when you cant even play the newset games at more then 800x600 and 19fps(looking at the ground)

    So which is a better value? i7 920 or i7 950?

    Scythe Guest

    i7 920. 950 = 920 with .4 more ghz, which the 920 is EASILY overclockable.

I could probably leave off the new PSU. I bought a Antec a couple years back when the original died. I can probably still use it.

I would consider going with the 5870, but I've always really hated ATI cards.

Is it better to SLI 2 GTX-260's or just have a single GTX-285?

You're going to be paying the same price for outdated hardware. Stick with a 5870. There's no difference between ATI and nVidia cards, it's a fanboy argument.

Actually, I used ATI cards back in the days when their drivers were absolute shit (anyone remember the ATI Rage Fury)?

Since then, I've always gone with nVidia. I'm sure ATI's drivers are fine now, but it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

    eyefinity with the 5870 = :)

new drivers will have the bezel tech so everything will be perfect. Wish they would hurry and make some decent monitors with extremely thin bezels...

Spend a little more on a better case, like the HAF 932.

I have one and love it.

Why spend more money on a component that doesn't improve performance?

I would go for a board with Sata 3 and USB 3.0 for some futureproofing and the new Gigabyte boards look sick.
Also the OCZ 6gb gold kit has the same specs as the Corsair at a much lower price.
And go with the i7 920
If your spending soo much money i would go with an SSD for OS

Sound dampening, weight, roominess, ease of build/maintenance, cooling, aesthetics, drive slots, better Front panel connectors.. for starters
