Yeah, too bad diesel is so expensive.

I hate the power delivery of diesels. It's like a hammer that goes limp after about 10 seconds.

Thats the beauty of the TT setup. One turbo spins at lower rpm's to provide low range power, the other spools up at higher rpms to provide high range power. The range isn't as wide as most gas engines, but I had a chance to drive a VW 1.6 diesel with a similar, but much more ghetto, setup and it was amazing. Power was always there when you needed it. Much more fun than a lot of gas engines.

Diesel is only a few cents more, if you're getting 57mpg and an equivalent gas powered car with same power is only getting 25-35mpg, why is it a problem if fuel is more expensive?

    in theory, yea :dunno:

That TT 1.6vw I drove was being powered by B60 and it ran well.

Look into biodiesel rally cars. It actually makes the car perform better

if they do I'll buy it! The 177hp version will be and im sure the 204hp will be too. Hopefully offered in North America after the introduction of the new low sulpher diesel. If Americans are willing to accept it

    they do

There's currently a 120d with 163hp (and also the less powerful 118d) so I'd imagine they'd replace that with the updated version

i don't want to hear about theory

either i can back up to a mcd's and pump the (filtered) grease from the fryer straight to the tank, or i can't

diesel is cheaper than gasoline in Europe :mamoru:

I wouldn't do that on any car. You would need a complex setup of filtration to clean out mcd grease before it is injected into the engine.

I could back my car up to grease traps and pump grease into a second tank and a number of filters got it down to 3microns, but it was slow process and I wouldn't trust doing this with a brand new BMW diesel engine.

    note how i said (filtered)

imma guess that just taking the chunks out isn't quite enough, but you know what i mean

take the fry grease, filter it enough to run, pump into tank, drive off

You can't actually do this on any car.

I helped a friend of mine make his car so he could do this, all we had to do was install an on-line heater that heats the veg oil so that it combusts easier in the engine. We even had a heater element in his tank and ran his car off pure canola when it was -40. So yes, it will work, if you want to void your new BMW warrenty :hsughno:

I'll take one. If VW brought better TDI's to the states, I'd be driving one right now.
