since it was cloudy and overcast, with good chance of rain, i didn't get a chance to go shooting today like i wanted to. So i set up my tripod, my maxxum, and my desk lamp. Laid ordinary objects from my desk onto a cutting board and shot a roll of kodak black and white, 400 iso , the kind that you can process anywhere and that also utilizes conventional color chemicals
    so here we go

Well, to tell you the truth they look like poor stock photography; but it's a decent start. Try concentrating on subject matter and composition ( although compositionally yours aren't that bad)....... however your photos are very overexposed; your highlights are blown out your whites are too white and darks too dark.... you need a good scale of black-white.

everything i was shooting was either stark white or black... white cutting board and black ash tray etc but i see what you mean about being really high contrast, i did most of that in photoshop since i lost some color balence among the grays in the scan
i think i might have fixed some of it, what do you think? any better ?

for me this is not only an exercise in taking the photos with black and white again, and composure, but also getting the exposure right for black and white etc... i tried to take all these in manual mode today. Also is getting the balance right in photoshop to touch them up and regaining my eye for a good range of contrast and brightness. What looks decent to me at first glance is not always what really does look good in hindsight.

compositionally i like most of them...

but the 'colors' (see: black and whites) seem washed out and bland...

the watch is deff. my favorite...
