So here is the deal. I purchased a DPMS stripped lower a few weeks ago. Just last week I picked up a DPMS upper w/ a parts kit for the lower. This past weekend I thought I'd put some rounds through it. Ran a check on it before I loaded any rounds and everything functioned as it should (as far as I know)
In goes the mag... Off with the safety.... squeeze the trigger.... and off went 5 rounds! theoretically if an AR-15 fires 5 times in FA and on the 5th there is a soft hit on the primer.....Then I get a misfire. When I removed the round there was barely a dimple in the primer. If I reload the round in an empty mag, it fires fine. Its almost as if the firing pin/hammer cant keep up and doesnt hit the next round hard enough. What can I do to fix that? If I load 1 single round at a time in amag, it fires every time.
Here are 2 shitty pics of a spent round and one that misfired http://roostfest.net/ar15/
    What am I missing here?

  2. FA is bad, posting about it publicly is probably worse.

I'm positive you are using commercial ammo and not NATO, you have soft primers and you forgot to put the spring under the disconnect. You fired off 5 rounds full auto because the disconnect is not grabbing the hammer every round. Your 5th round jammed because there is no auto sear and the bolt/hammer/firing pin is riding the round to the chamber from the mag and there is no timing. Take the bitch apart and put the tiny spring under the disconnect you will be fine.

    This.

ATF no long distinguises FA by design from FA by malfunction. Delete thread. Disassemble lower. Re-read instructions or take to a gunsmith.

Just to clarify, are you holding the trigger down while it's shooting FA? If you pull once and it keeps going that means it's slam firing.

If you're holding it down, then your disconnecter isn't grabbing the hammer so the hammer is just riding on the back of the bolt all the way home and after 5 rounds or so there's just not enough inertia from the hammer to the pin to set off the primer.

edit: You don't have to delete your post, just update it by saying "theoretically if an AR-15 fires 5 times in FA and on the 5th there is a soft hit on the primer... etc"

Just hurry up and fix it. You only have a few minutes before they break your door down.

Ok I'm back.... and yes I did edit my first post :noes:

I contacted my friend that assembled it (A Marine back from Iraq) and he informed me about the "spare spring" in the box. Now that I've had time to look into it. It is the Disconnector spring. Now I need to take it apart to install.
Thanks again! Hopefully no blacked out Tahoe's come to visit me tonight
