The Mac Pro is overkill imo.

Mid tower with iMac specs would be just the ticket.

iMacs are pretty damn serious machines these days.

8 cores as standard isn't overkill?

Mac Pros are pretty large things aswell. I think a small tower would be great so you aren't forced to have the screen with the iMac.

8-cores may be "standard" but you can drop it own to a single 4-core.

A small tower would be great, but I'd never buy an iMac because
    1. pretty unfriendly to upgrade
    2. monitor is built in
    3. they are ugly
    4. see #3

Dot. Not sure about them being ugly though.

A small tower would be cheap too. I think Mac Pros are a bit over priced. In the UK anyway :o

I think the iMac looks awesome, but it would force me to buy a complete separate display for my PC, which is a waste of money.

I think most people don't upgrade their computers, aside from Ram & HDD which you can with any Mac. This goes for Macs and WinBoxes, so the only people complaining about these things are enthusiast/hobbyist. PC Gamers are another bunch I never understood. I prefer playing a console in my living room on a huge plasma TV while sitting comfortably on my couch.

i just ordered an iMac. Its one of the old ones direct from Apple. it says refurbished but I'm almost certain that its the previous editions that never sold. on the plus side, I paid $1197 total

    Here's the specs
    • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    • 1GB memory
    • 320GB hard drive1
    • 8x double-layer SuperDrive
    • ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
I also just ordered a Gig of ram from Crucial for 30 bucks

and yea, I knew what i was buying. The iMac G5 I have now is going to a friend.

well... i've kept my 20" LCD monitor and i'm on a 3rd pc. so, aside from upgrading ram and hdd, on a standalone system you can upgrade the PC itself.

    Too bad no Blu-ray. :wtc:

That 3GHz 24" is mighty sessy. So tempting.

It means that Apple announced the good stuff a day early and broke the Tuesday pattern. :slap:
