but considering them for gym days... since i cant bring chalk with me INTO the gym i've been thinking about using gloves in the gym for my final sets of bench & DL. With chalk i've noticed it to be so much easier to do those heaviest sets without having to worry about your grip.

so, do gloves = better grip on bench & DL???

i usually use chalk when i lift with my brothers in the garage. my rule has been gloves are for pussies. Since the #1 reason i hear people say to use gloves is for keeping their hands in good condition.

but on the last & heaviest sets of bench & DL, my hands get sweaty, which makes grip an issue.

I use gloves on some lifts like bench, and for arm work where grip doesn't matter and sweat is a nuisance. Also that way I'm not distracted by the pain in my hands from blisters. I often throw the gloves away for dls/shrugs because they mess with my grip. In those cases I use a small towel in each hand for the heaviest sets. You're not a pussy for wanting to use gloves to keep sweaty hands from holding you back, especially on bench. That's not really a grip intensive excercise.

I use gloves when I deadlift and when I do bent-over rows.

    WTF sweaty hands?

And how does that fuck with you on bench? Hell, I think bench would be the lift it would be least relevant on...

does using straps make you a pussy too?

I've been considering straps or gloves for DL days, for the last sets... But I don't want my grip to get weak either....

In the past I've found that gloves actually hurt my grip.

Because I don't want my hands slipping when I have 200lbs (okay well 150lbs) hovering over my face. I don't use the gloves for grip, I just use them for the sweaty hands factor. For grip I prefer my bare hands or at most a towel since gloves are way too thick.

Yeah when you're holding 400+ lbs over your head you don't want your hands to start slipping. Just another precaution.
