Moved into an apartment a while back...and we have cable decided to opt out of the internet deal to save a few bucks.

I was wondering if there is a way to hook up my GF's computer with a cable connection through a network but still having cable tv.

There are no other cable jacks in the APT, just one in the living room.

Normally a router should work (i think), but I'm not sure if it would still let me have cable tv.

Just wondering if there is a way to get a cable connection to the computer while keeping cable tv, and use the same jack?

    Your post makes ZERO sense.

Do you already have inet? If so you have a modem. Do you have a router?

Do you want Cable TV in your GFs room?
Do you want internet in your GFs room?

If you want internet, you need a router, then just run a cat5 cable to her PC, or use wireless.

If you want cable, then use a splitter and run rg6 to her TV.

if you're cancelling the internet why are you running a cable to your computer?

if internet is cancelled, internet on her PC won't work.

    sorry for the confusion guys.

When we moved into our apartment, we had cable, and we aren't paying for it. We even asked the people at the lease office about it, and they said that the cable company usually takes a while (3-6 months) to turn off cable. They usually don't turn it off right away because when the next tenants move in, they will turn it back on.

Anyways, there is only ONE cable jack and it's in the living room hooked up to the TV. My GF's comp in in another room all the way on the other side of the apartment.

So what I'm wondering is, is there a way for me to get wireless internet on my GF's comp and still keep the cable in the living room?

Can I run a spliter with one end into the TV, and one end into a modem, then into a router and my GF have internet on her computer?

I'm really sorry for the original post that is kind of confusing now that I look at it.

    I really appreciate everybodies help

From the wall, split the cable, send one to the TV and one to the cable modem.

From the cable modem go cat5 to a wireless router.

Get a wireless PCI card for her PC.

    done.

you get an internet connection (pay for it)

then you use a router to 'split' the connection...

so modem plugs into router, and that splits the connection...then you have a eterhet cable (or wireless) going to each pc..and voila, internet
