Can anyone recommend a good network services monitoring tool for Windows or Linux? For example, I would like to send round-robin test e-mail from the outside to check if our e-mail server/SMTP/POP services are available. Also I want to check if our web servers/HTTP/HTTPS services are available. Ditto for DNS services. I want to be notified via e-mail, SMS, Blackberry. Thanks.

    Anyone play with Zabbix?

I have been running it for a while now and has worked out pretty good. Sucky part is it requires a software monitor to be installed on the host (and modification of the firewall if one is in place).
