is there any tool out there for win32 machines to simulate attacks on a network (ie. port scanning, DoS attacks.. etc)

I'm testing out a new intrusion detection software (ISS RealSecure SiteProtector) for my company and I need something to simulate attacks..

I heard of the app called SATAN (Security Administrator Tool for Analyzing Networks) but it runs on *nix and not windows :hs:

    please help!

Maybe check out Knoppix and then load Satan (not sure if Knoppix includes it or not)...

Check out Knoppix. Its a boot CD. You pop it into your Wintel box and boot up in under 2 minutes (assuming you have a machine that is less then 3 years old). In the 2 minutes or less it will auto detect everything and mount anything it finds (kinda like rabbits). From your Wintel box, you can then toss Satan on there (but double check, Knoppix may include it - I haven't checked). There's other flavors of CD bootable distros like Knoppix that may include Satan...

Just use any Unix machine (or knoppix, if that is easiest) and try to simulate the attack yourself.

Don't forget that VMWare rocks for having multiple OSes on your workstation. :big grin:

Oh yeah, and a demonstration of ettercap on a customer network usually seals the deal for a Cisco campus switching design. :big grin:
