My other computer is my house needs to be reformated. It doesn't even start up anymore. I need to reformat it but the CD drive and floppy drive are broken, so I can't use the installation cd on it. Don't tell me that I can buy a new drive for $10 because I already know that. I don't want to put any money in it, it is a 466MHz celeron processor with a 20gb harddrive. I bought the computer a loooong time ago.

I have had windows xp pro on it for about 2 years and it works perfectly for what I use that computer for. It does the internet and word without any problems, so please don't tell me it will run like shit on my PC, because I know it won't.

I have heard of people doing a network installation of windows xp pro. How can I do that?

You're going to need a server to do a network install and a PXE-compliant network card. Sounds like a lot more trouble than it's worth. I believe it's call a RIS server.

If you refuse to spend any money on it (which sorry, I think it's stubborn even for $10) pull a working CD-ROM drive from another machine to re-install XP.

What do you think you are going to do when you need to install other programs on the machine with no working CD-ROM drive?

Hell, give me $5 for shipping and I'll send you a CD-ROM drive...

Go buy a USB flash drive.
Put a linux distro on it.

    Install from there.

this assumes of course that the machine will boot from the USB device.
