I removed the network card out of a computer running windows 2000 and forgot to disable the card before removing it. Now, the computer turns on, makes some beeps and then shuts off.

I tried running an MS-DOS start-up disc but that didnt work. What could be the problem, and how can I fix it?

I don't see why taking the card out without disabling it would matter.

Have you tried to put the card back in and then boot the machine?

A couple of beeps in a row sounds like a video card problem. If it's not built-in, make sure it is still seated properly. Make sure all cable connections are good.

I hope the motherboard wasn't getting standby power when you yanked the card.
