    Is this a known/common problem?

Or is it just me :wtc:

Try burning something other than what you're trying to burn now. Maybe it's something with the track. Also make sure that the burn method (Track at once, Disc at Once, etc) is set to the correct method for your burner (TAO is best for older burners I believe)

Nope, it fucked up on erasing the disk not just writing it.

Gets over half way done then says 'burn process failed'

    :dunno:

How can it get halfway then stop? It must be at least half working

I'll look more on the sony site in case of extra software.

    1. Sony Vaio PCG-R600 HFPD

    PIII 1ghz
    256mb
    30gb

    2. Windows XP Pro (Standard OS)

    3. Ive looked at the drivers available at the sony site, none of them refer to the CD-RW, and ive updated all the other major things.

It just successfully burnt a CD-RW of a different brand, so i'll experiment with different ones.

I've had the same issue with 'generic' CDs. Using brand names discs has always worked for me........

I've never had a problem with generic CDs - I used to have the same problem with Nero 5.5 but version 6 has never let me down.

Since you've "restored" the computer, did you remember to download the newest drivers?
