    Bx. thief accidentally kills cohort

    BY ROBERT F. MOORE
    DAILY NEWS POLICE BUREAU

A bungling bandit accidentally shot his accomplice - his cousin - dead after the duo tried to mug a man in the Bronx, a police source said yesterday.

Sharrieff Smith, 28, was charged with second-degree murder and gun possession in the Feb. 11 killing of Risha Campbell, 29.

"That's a strange twist on street justice," the police source said.

The shooting occurred as the kin tried to rob an unidentified man at about 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a warehouse at 2417 Third Ave. in Mott Haven.

It wasn't clear yesterday whether Smith and the robbery victim had struggled over the weapon or if Smith somehow fired by mistake.

After Campbell was hit in the left thigh, his cowardly cousin ran, the source said.

Four men spotted Campbell bleeding in the parking lot, and paramedics raced him to Lincoln Hospital, where he died. Cops later found three 9-mm. shell casings at the scene.

Smith, who was also charged with attempted robbery, was awaiting arraignment late yesterday.

His criminal history includes a 2001 collar in Riverdale on charges of possessing marijuana, ammunition and a gun. He pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in 2002 and was sentenced to five years' probation.

Campbell, the father of a 3-year-old daughter, had two previous drug arrests, a law enforcement source said.

If he's a convicted felon, his posession of ammunition is a crime (at least in CA, I'm sure NYC is similar).

Yeah it was a lucky shot, theres a vital artery in the thigh that you could bleed out from pretty quick must of nailed it, thats what happens when you hold a gun up in the air sideways slightly slanted down :mamoru:

nah he was probably hit in the femoral artery. Very fast bleed out time.
    Good shooting, I say.
