negatives of losing weight too fast?

    I know someone who is trying to lose weight. I think they are severely undereating instead of dropping the cals moderately. What are the negatives of losing weight too fast, if any??

    well, this person has never worked out in their entire life, and they are so obese that they can't even do any running or anything like that. they're only using a set of light DB's and yoga to ease into it... i think they have dropped cals from like anywhere from 3-4k to 1k, if that. no joke.

    he won't stick with it.

    a 500 calorie deficit everyday will make him lose one pound every week... 1000 would make him lose two pounds every week.

    cutting 2-3k = he will NOT stick with it.

    No? Well, tell them have fun gaining half the weight back.

    Change your liftstyle (exercise + eat right) and take it slow.

    i see no problem with an agressive diet to kickstart a morbidly obese person.

    edit: anyone remember the diet and routine arch and fatghost layed out for thomor? it was basically a starvation diet to get him at a weight healthy enough to do moderate exercise.

    They will soon realise that losing weight fast can be very expensive. Having to buy a new wardrobe, keep the body in shape by exercising (gym membership), eating healthy afterwards which will require buying healthier foods.... and the list can go on.

    Not to mention lack of vitamins and minerals which could lead to many unhealthy things if the person is severly malnourished.

    worst part of doing it that way is that he will probably just gain all the weight back even if he loses a lot

    It's been like a week or a week and a half and they have already lost 20lbs. I know that alot of that is prob water weight, but still..... ridiculous IMO

    like i said, they cannot physically walk for extended periods of time or work out at a gym.. they can only use DB's. so.. right now they are doing a full body routine 3 times a week, along with yoga two times a week.

    the routine is something like this:

    bw squats 4x15
    calf raises 3x15
    shoulder press 3x10
    front raises 3x10
    **SUPERSET WITH lateral raises 3x10
    tricep extensions 3x10
    **superset with alt. DB curl 3x10

    At the beginning, really obese people can tolerate well a huge drop of fat. In their case, the negatives of losing so fast are much less important because their health is just terrible. There was this show on tv where they put a 250 lbs guy on a meat/veggie diet and he lost like 40-50 lbs in two months without much work.

    well, i know obese people can lose fat really fast, but i thought that was like.. say they were taking in 4k cals and drop to 2k. they'd lose hella weight.

    but it just seems extremely dramatic just because the calorie intake dropped so much!

    like two sticks of celery
    protein bar
    small chicken breast

    = one day

    And I thought it was weird when I was losing 5-7 lbs per week back when I first started out.

    Protein sparing modified fast.

    Only recommended for those too obese to make a difference. If you are less than about 25% bf, I would not recommend it.
