Hey all, I'm looking to pick up a negative scanner for the tons and tons of negatives I have and continue to take (i'm a sucker for old school 35mm black and white pics). It will be used for both color and black and white photos however.

Anyone have one and can recommend it? I don't really want to spend too much, but I am more than willing to pay for quality since these are images I will never get again. Thanks

if you only want 35mm you can get a second hand coolscan or similar dedicated one for a good deal on ebay. alternatively in flatbeds canon 8800f, or epson 4490 are both great deals, they can also scan larger film.

How does this nonsense work? I've got thousands of strips of negatives I'd love to convert to digital.

as far as I can tell you just scan them in and they are now in digital format. I don't think it's too much more complicated than that, but who knows.

I just thought about getting one because I will be shooting 35mm this weekend at the Detroit Auto Show and want to be able to upload the pics to send to friends and relatives. Add to that the tons of negatives I already have and I figured it was a decent investment to make

I have been using the Coolscan 4000 for a while. Takes your 4 frame negs, sucks them in, scans them as whatever res you want up to 4000DPI and spits out a Tiff , Nef or Jpg.

How about we do a group purchase and share it? LOL.
