I know it sounds stupid, but here's the story. In order to log into my employer's mainframe through the internet, I either need to run Internet Explorer through OS9, or connect through any version of Windows (the mainframe emulator is java based, and doesn't work with the java built into OSX for some reason :ugh: ). I dunno if/when they'll fix the problem. I still have my G3 iBook, but would prefer to take my Macbook on the road with me. I've heard rumors that the next version of windows will run on the intel based macs. I also know there's an emulator called Qemu. I tried to run it on my iBook, but it would lock up as soon as I tried running it. I have yet to try it on my Macbook. Any suggestions?

I dont think that vpc works with rosetta, and vista will not support EFI, so you're out of luck for next gen microsoft. As far as I know, Microsoft is working on an osx86 version of VPC.

VPC works. I've seen screenshots. Actually, VPC is supposed to be WICKED fast running XP on the Intel Macs. There's your solution.

so when you buy a download, does it charge you then take you to a download page? And will that work on a G5?

Thanks for the PM, clog. I installed it and everything seemed to go well, but the application would crash when I try to open it. I would assume that I'd have to wait for an update sometime down the road. Thanks for the help anyways though - appreciate it :bigthumb:

Is that possible on a Mac? I'm sure it's something Java related, but from what I understand, all versions of OSX don't work with my company's mainframe emulator. I've done all my software updates - would that not take care of Java?

QEMU is not a virtualization program, it is an emulator...so the performance is going to suck accordingly.

Virtualization technology uses the actual hardware in most cases, so the performance of the virtual machine is very close to the actual hardware.

I suspect VMware will announce a product for OS X this year...that would rock!
