Need to create mp3 soundclips. Suggestions?

    I want to create short 1 minute soundclips (like the audio samples on Amazon and CDNow) in mp3 format with a fade out at the end. Does anyone know what software I could use to create these? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Not sure if there's a Windows version of either, but on Linux I've used gnusound and audacity to do similar things. Both were pretty good, and I think there might be a Windows version of audacity (http://audacity.sf.net).
