I am wanting to burn backups of movies (literally) and also am wanting to burn large .iso files. About 3 gigs or so. My question is....what type of dvd burner should I be getting and what type of media?

    The +/- shit is confusing

nec 3550a will do DVD+R, DVD-R and dual layer.
Discs, stick with a good brand name, verbatim or maxell.

Finally, someone else who likes Verbatim recordables. I've been having a hell of a time finding them lately; what's your source?

TDK for me. Good media, and I can drive 2 blocks away and buy 50-packs for under $15.

I use TDK right now, but I've had splendid luck with Verbatims lasting for years under regular use, so I'm partial.

As far as the +/- shit goes, buy a DVD burner that can handle as many formats as possible -- even DVD-RAM, if you expect to be storing a lot of long-term backups. DVD-RAM trumps every other kind of rewritable DVD.

    NEC 3550a (burner)
DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn (burning program)
Ridata, TDK, Pro Disk, or Verbatim (blank media)
