my best guess is something that is trying to load ( a program, or shortcut, or something) has an A: drive reference... start nuking things out of your startup that you don't need.

either go to services and see what's loading up, or copy the msconfig.exe from an xp or 9x machine and put it in your system32 folder and check the startup tab.

Does that msconfig.exe copy thing really work?
I've never heard of anybody doing that for Windows 2000.
I usually go through and check my startup programs pretty regularly so that I don't have a bunch of unnecessary crap running. It's a good maintenance exercise and sometimes is very enlightening.
