I am having serious issues with sql server on my laptop vs my desktop machine, even with a new install. at this point i really need to talk to someone with experience with sql server (from an environment point of view). if there is anyone out there, raise your hand. a good sql forum would also help

    thanks in advance

ok i'll shoot. for the reference i have installed identical environments on a hp desktop and on my sony vaio laptop. the vaio laptop is the one having issues. the reason i suspect SQL is because on the vaio laptop does not let me install "SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition". I am running XP pro (updated) on both PCs. The error message is that the OS isn't supported. However i can install enterprise manager and MSDE on the laptop.

I then proceed to install the rest of my dev environment, which includes Content Management Server (MCMS). Here is where the true problem lies... when i log in with my CMS accounts, which should have access to the cms database, it can't authenticate. this is what lead me to believe it has something do to with the SQL

    any ideas?

I run SQL Server on XP Pro. I use it as my local testing environment.

what type of authentication does your CMS require? Do you have it running in mixed security mode?

i believe it is running in mixed mode (this was chosen in the installation). i do not know what it requires. but i do know i've done one install with this where SQL Server Enterprise installed completely and CMS worked, and another (this one) whre i had to install MSDE then the enterprise manager and i have these authentication problems.

also when installing i had to use some deal with disablenetworkprotocols=0. does that have to do with anything?

    thanks :/
