I've been thinking about getting Phi (symbol for the golden ratio) on my shoulder

So I've been free balling some designs and this is what I've come up with so far:

    [IMG][IMG]

and a photochop of what it would look like

I'm thinking of changing the boarder around it, possibly more

anyone have any suggestions or ideas? thanks :)

I like it standing by itself, no border around it

IMO i'd make it bigger to cover more of your upper shoulder. I was disappointed with my first tattoo because after a few weeks i was thinking fuck i wish i had got this bigger

how would switching the background solve that? as I would still have the phi symbol

I had thought about that, but I don't think I would mind correcting them

edit: oh, two separate ideas, i c

i should probably incorporate something else that makes it look like a mathematical tattoo rather than a frat tattoo :hs:

So what significance does the golden ratio have in your life? Or is it just a cool looking symbol?

Why do you need a background with it? Keep it simple.

I'm a very logical person- the golden ratio to me represents how nature, also, is governed by logic

do you think it detracts from the overall design? or just unnecessary?

also, the spirals in the background are actually fibonacci spirals- if anyone cares

Both. It's pulling your eye away from the main part of your tattoo.

yeah i'd ditch the background attempts and keep it simple. I actually think the golden ratio rectangle/spiral rendition would be a better idea for this but to each his own

i'd like to add something to the greek symbol so that it doesn't look like a simple frat tattoo, thats why I added the spirals behind it- but I could make it simpler

then again, i could always forget about the symbol- a series of fibonacci spirals looks pretty good

So I guess I would go with the lowercase form if you want to be accurate.

Not to mention the amount of frats that use the uppercase. I think you'd have less questions of that nature if you went lowercase.

i cant decide how i feel about it. maybe its just the fact that its photoshopped and not actual ink that makes it look funny. either way, go with what you like... and i agree, go lowercase since it a. makes more sense, and b. you wont get asked what frat you are/were in a million times.
