I'm in class. 72 pictures due by noon.

My sd card went corrupt, half my pics come up 'unexpected end of file' when trying to open in ACR or lightroom. The file sizes are noticably smaller.

I also can't get the card to open in a card reader. It only opens when loaded in the camera and connected to the computer.

I can see the pics in the camera LCD, and they appear fine.

Ideas? Thoughts? Anyone have any recovery software they could host? I'm desperate.

    thanks!

Just show your professor and explain the situation. They should understand that way you wont feel so pressed for time.

hte images you're seeing on the camera are probably the thumbnail of the raw file :noes:

I'm not sure. sounds like you're boned :(

    Yeah... beat so far.

I managed to recover ~30 of them by using some freeware. Got 30 of 72 handed in. Granted, these were just 30 images. NOT 30 of the images I planned on selecting for submission. I think 5 or 6 were ones I thought were acceptable. I shot 235 total shots. I was going to select 72 from them, then prep and print my best 3.

    Teacher was not sympathetic.

I'm back at work now, using Salvage on my mac to see if I can recover the rest. I guess i'll just have to take the 10% late penalty on the rest, if I can recover. Hopefully he'll be nicer when he sees that the metadata shows they were taken prior to the time they were due...

ah well. I'll let you guys know how Salvage does for me when it's done...

if the teacher continues to be a dick about it and docks you points that will eventually hurt your overall grade, i'd present this problem to the dean or someone above him. this happens with memory cards and if they don't have the ability to recover them or give you extra time to reshoot, that's just bad.

or when he's in the bathroom, take his memory card and scratch the contacts with a pen and mess it up so he gets the same problem.

then laugh at him, call him a faggot and drop the class

I'll deal with the prof. once I get the photos sorted out... It's much easier to argue that shit once I have the assignment in hand...

What should I do with the card? Reformat and try it again? Is it trash? Can I get a replacement somehow?

I could really use some other recovery software... For the PC specifically...

this is usually a sign that the memory card is done but i've seen some last quite some time after a problem like this.

as for recovery software, pay some money for one. the free ones work, but the ones for $10-20 will do a much better job.
