My company is closing down and some employees are asking about buying their PC's or Laptops. I'm looking for some help on what to set the prices at. I don't want to rip them off and I don't want to charge too little since obviously, the money is going back into the company.

Here's what I got. The desktops will come with a Dell 15" or 17" flat panel, keyboard, and mouse.

    Desktops:

    Dell Dimension 8200 old
    Dell Dimension 2100 old
    Dell Dimension 2300 old
    Dell Dimension 4100 old
Dell Dimension E521 3 years old

    Laptops:

    Dell Inspiron 8100 old
    Dell Inspiron 8200 old
Dell Inspiron 600M 3 years old
Dell Inspiron 5100 5 years old
Dell Inspiron 5150 5 years old

    Dell Latitude D610 old

    Thanks,

We literally gave ours away the last job. It was more of a hassle to dispose of them if they weren't. The last major upgrade of hardware we did the same thing.

I replaced 65 old office systems over the summer and sold off all the old systems to employees. Dell Optiplex 170L's were all 2.8GHz P4's, 512mb-1.5GB ram, 40-80gb hdd's, cdrw/dvd-rom drives. I ran DBAN on the drives to kill all the existing data and then loaded an image of XP Pro, Office 2003 SBE and antivirus on them. They sold for $50, with or without a 17" CRT, and a keyboard and mouse.
Laptops, all I had were old Inspiron 600M's, same thing, DBAN, image and go. They also went for $50.
The money was more so to cover the time that IT spent on the systems wiping, dusting and imaging them. The systems were all about 5 years old, so there would have been minimal money in them.

Whatever you do, make sure you run some sort of data nuke program to prevent people from being able to recover data, you may trust your employees, but who knows if they don't really need it and it's getting sold to a neighbor who wants a system or something like that.

$50 sounds like a decent price, and would keep things simple.

All those machines are ancient, I would say like $50 to $75 depending on the specs. Maybe $100 for a package with the E521's.

Wow... if you accept any money for those relics you're ripping them off!

Hey... not my choice.. I think $50 for a somewhat decent machine with a flat panel, keyboard, and mouse is a pretty good deal.

The E521's are barely 3 years old and I've seen one or 2 sell on Ebay for ~$130 tower only.

kill disk or BCWipe would mop the data right off the drive, simple and easy.
