I'm trying to format my brother's laptop which is a dell 640 (first problem, I know). Last night I started the format and went to Wal-Mart for some food shopping. When I got back (approx. 45mins later) it was only 4% done. I left it formatting over night and when I woke up the computer was turned off because of heat issues. Now I am trying to format again, but this time I have it under a giant fan pointed at the bottom of the laptop.

Question: is it a bad hard drive? Or anything else I can do to get this formatted?

    :dunno:

Werd... sounds like you're doing a 0 write to the hard drive. A quick format and partition only takes me about 2 minutes.

Corrupt files are a bad sign. I'd run a disk utility to verify everything is okay with the drive.
