So the BN has events which are those not required to attend/optional events, after hours. I choose to not go. I got my ass chewed for not going by the BN XO and will have my CO doing a counseling statement for it.

    :wtf:

Optional for a reason!? Or did I fail to read between the lines, hear the foot stomping, etc?

personally if I was gonna be chewed out for it, hey ok ill "understand" next time. But thier is a problem if they are hitting you will paperwork, pretty sure thats unwarranted and I would let them know you belived it was so.

They can't get your with counseling if it was optional. If it was an actual event where there was actual accountability which was put out, then yea maybe they have something.

Also what rank are you and what event are you talking about. There are certain events, like hail and farewell, which certain ranks are required to attend.

If you're an officer, pretty much everything is mandatory.

    voluntold.

And yes, there are many "optional" functions but as an Officer, we're expected to be there.

just tell them there is an optional asskicking event after the counseling session and that they are highly encouraged to attend.

yea i had a hail and farewell last night where i noticed alot of people weren't there. But no one was asking about them. Hell my CO showed up there towards the end. For some reason everyone in your BN knew you weren't there. From the way the story went last night, I think you need to see what your 1SGs problem is.
And why the fuck are we both on staff duty today.

The sign at Fort Hood says it's a "Great Place."

    They said so. ;)

I'm sure it also says you are entering a military installation and you can be gangraped at any time for any reason as seen fit by the installation commander.
Remember, only nine out of ten people enjoy a gangrape.

Yeah, usually when they say it's optional, it's really not.

Get a copy of Heller's Catch-22, and read it. Relatively early in the book some of the main characters are in ranks being indoctrinated by Lt. Sheiskopf. He says something like, "If you have any problem, any problem at all, with what I've just told you, then please, please just step forward and tell me." There follows a brief exchange between soldiers in ranks that explains Catch-22. When you fully comprehend this fundamental rule that exists in the Army, you won't have to ask questions like "how can I get chewed out for not attending an 'optional' event".

Contrary to what most enlisted believe, officers have even less discretion than most sergeants. Officers are privileged in many ways, but are hemmed in with a zillion quiet constraints and expectations that no enlisted person would put up with for a minute. The Burden of Command can be terribly heavy for the best officers who take their oaths very seriously. Still, in my opinion, holding a commission is preferable to being enlisted.

BTW, I've been out of service since 1959.
