Okay so in the sci-fi genre, I have hardcore conceptual sci-fi covered. I also have read a lot of space adventure type and a lot of individual or squad-based combat books.

Any recommendations for some books with epic space battles with 11ty warships and shit that aren't based on a movie or written for 14yo audiences?

How come every science fiction allegiance associated with humans has to be called The Alliance?

    Great, great book.

Have you guys read The Mote In God's Eye? It has battles, but not with giant fleets. It's worth the read, though.

Would you prefer the Hemegony? What about the Empire? I'm fond of the Illuminati.

Well, the bad guys in those books, also human, are called the Syndicate, or "Syndics" for short. Much cooler-sounding than the Alliance IMO.

have read the first three books in this series, very good. the way it deals with ship movement in a fairly hard science manner is a kick.
