I posted this in OT, but maybe it will get better responses here.

I have remote desktop set up and I am running Win XP on both my desktop (which i'm trying to connect to) and my laptop (which I'm using to connect). I can connect fine (on my laptop) from my friend's house who has some no name brand wireless router.

The problem is that I can't connect from my other friend's place (also on my laptop). They have a wireless network using a Netgear router. Any suggestions?

does it tell you why you can't connect? or does it just timeout?

Can you try to port scan your house from the friends house that you can't connect from?

Does it show port 3389 as open?

I would first bypass the router and plug directly into the ADSL or cable modem to eliminate the ISP being the problem. If there's no problem there, bring the working router over to your other firends house and test it. If it solves the problem, it's his router.
