Just looking for some quick advice here. I'm going to be buying a new Lenovo T61 laptop and I've got a question about Ram.

Lenovo includes 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 (2 DIMM) with the laptop and charges $80 to upgrade to 2GB and $520 to upgrade to 4GB.:eek4:

I was searching around and found this. http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=CA4354065

So I'm wondering, is Lenovo charging me $520 for something I could do myself for $28.99x2? Am I missing something here?

    Thanks for any help.

Some lenovo products are very picky about timing/speed on memory. I can't say for sure, I just know my workstation at work is fussy about any ram i put in except IBM's tested modules.

You could get it w/ 1GB and then check out the specifications on the memory using a program like cpu-z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) and then find a ram module with the same voltage/timings, just a larger capacity

So in theory, that ram "should" work in the laptop, right?

    But it might not.
