Well I just picked up a USB enclosure and a maxtor harddrive to add some space to my laptop.

All I need this hard drive for is storage and I was just wondering what the jumpers should be set to for this to be.

    Maxtors website's jumper choices are:

    Master
    Master with CLJ
    Slave
    Slave with CLJ
    Cable Select
    Cable Select with CLJ

I have NO clue what the hell CLJ is or cable select is.

Edit: It says CLJ is Cylinder Limitation position.....still don't know what that means.

Any help on this would be appreciated,

    Thanks for your time.

Try master, if that doesn't work try slave.

You won't need to limit the cylinders as that was only a way to get new larger HDs to work with old mobos.

Master is the propper setting. Never slave.

The exception is Western Digital drives, where you must select "Single" also known as "Master w/o Slave".
