    hooked up my laptop to my TV with an HDMI cable. when i want to play a movie from my hard drive, the video plays on my tv, but the audio comes from the laptop. how do i get the audio to play through my tv speakers?

    first, make sure your laptop's HDMI output includes audio.
    most are video only, the latest ones do both.

    get a headphone cord that has male jacks on both ends, unless your tv accepts rca, then get one that has a headphone jack on one end and rcas on the other
