While logged into my unix account for school, my friend showed me the passwd command and the way you can change your password. well he randomly typed in a new password and we have no idea what it was, so im basically locked out. is there a way to regain access to my account? please help me out, i need to get work done and im out of town(i cant talk to the system admin).

    please help ASAP.

I think you're out of luck, unless you want to try hacking your way back in. :hs:

But passwd should ask you to confirm the password, and the chances of him randomly typing the same password twice are very slim.

Is there any data on that machine you need at the moment or do you just need access to a Unix machine? I can provide you with access to my shell if you need.

 Go talk to the Computer Help people. They will probably ask for a student ID or drivers liscense to prove your identity, and then can change your password back.

I doubt this is even true, but everyone above is correct. You're basically SOL until you can get your account reset by an admin.
