I'm looking at a machine for a guy at work. Right after the XP Home splash screen I get this:

    "LSASS.EXE - System Error"
"When trying to update a password, the return status indicates the value
provided as the current password is not correct"

A few seconds after this, the machine automatically reboots.

From searching, everything I find about this problem doesn't really point to a solution. Most pages I find think that it's the Sasser worm.

Not being able to boot to Windows or Safe Mode, I put the hard drive in another machine as a slave. I ran the Sasser removal tool and it rebooted in the middle of the scan. I ran an Antivirus scan and nothing came up.

Any ideas? Is there anything I can do before just reformatting it? It's not my machine, I was just being nice looking at it and he now tells me he lost the restore CD's.

    Specs:

    HP Pavillion 7935
    Athalon 1.3 gig
    Windows XP Home

    Thanks,
